Definition of Foundation

/faʊnˈdeɪʃn/ Noun

The lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level.

Foundations are essential in any house and anyone in this life sits on a certain foundation whether it is good or bad. Often these foundations were placed by other people long before we could pick up the cues.

There are a lot of things placed in the foundation like gravel mostly consisting of stones, sand, concrete, and metal bindings to add to the mix. Afterwards, this foundation is buried underground and forgotten like it isn’t of use but to the contrary it holds the structure above ground.

The strength of the house is determined solely by the foundation. The deeper the foundation, the taller and mightier the structure.

In our lives, foundations are very important and determine where we can go. Where you come from and how you were bred is your foundation.

In today’s world, some people don’t even go to church or when they do, it backfires on them in the form of illnesses misfortunes, and the like. The problem is that they are sitting on other foundations contrary to the one found in the church. If your child may have become disobedient, it is because of certain foundations.

A foundation is like a quarry and certain stones resemble a certain quarry.

Those who lay the foundation, pay a hefty price for its erection for it is in the foundation that we can determine the strength of a house.

In our lives more than often, foundations are laid in many ways and forms.

1. WORDS

Some words devour people because they were placed upon them by others. A perfect example of this is Ham who was Noah’s son. He was cursed for witnessing Noah’s nudity when he got drunk on the wine on one occasion. I therefore urge you to respect your parents to avoid such a foundation.

2. FOUNDATIONS PLACED BY OTHERS

You find certain lineages have a common problem in all their generation. Without a serious need to solve the matter, they will often struggle for freedom and mostly they will never break a certain threshold because the foundation is too strong for them.

Looking closely at the Bible we find a phenomenal case of a man who was in a familiar predicament unbeknown even to himself through foundations laid by others. The man’s name was Gideon.

The Bible says,

 IN JUDGES 6:11;

11 The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”!!!!!

In this meeting, the angel of God greeted and recognized a mighty warrior in Gideon that he could save Israel but Gideon belittled himself due to his foundations As we can read in chapter 15;

15“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

Upon further discussion with the angel, we find that Gideon realizes that he has been chosen as a leader and the first condition to attain this leadership and warrior that was within Gideon, was to break the foundations that were laid for him in the form of Baal worship!

It was till he destroyed Baal’s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it in the cover of night (Judges 6:27) that he was able to start getting victory after victory by leading the Israelites into battle with his army!

Most of us have capacity but our foundations never allow us!!! In order for you to be prosperous you should be willing and ready to fight and even pay the price to break free from foundations that limit you.
