Bible Reading comes from 2 Kings 4: 1-7
AND THE BIBLE SAYS this about the woman;
1 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.
Interpretation.
A woman, whose husband had died went to Prophet Elisha and told him that her husband had died, and he was of the fellowship of the prophets, but he had left a big debt which made his debtors to come for his two sons to become slaves. Elisha asked the woman what she had which she responded to have a little oil in the house.
The woman was told to go and borrow as many empty containers as she could, enter in the house together with her two sons and take the oil and start pouring in the containers. She obeyed and the oil flowed until the last container was full. The man of God told her to sell the oil to pay the debt and live by the remainder.
Points to note from today’s Bible reading.
1. As a woman of substance, evaluate yourself.
- What do you have, what can you do
- Do not compare yourself with other people
- Do what you are able, do not enter into debt in the name of doing everything to make people happy
2. Honor the altar and the minister
- The altar that her husband was serving attracted a miracle.
- Talk well of the altar that you serve since it speaks over your life and family.
3. Know where to speak about your problems and with whom
- Sometimes you need to close the doors and call upon God instead of telling everybody what you are going through.
- (if you are in need of guidance and counseling kindly contact us)
4. Protect your family
- When it came for the children to be taken away, she had to think and react fast.
- Work, pray, and trust in God.
